Celebrate By Giving Back!

          The first ever Earth Day took place on April 22nd , 1970. In the 52 years since, what started as Senator Gaylord Nelson's attempt to bring the seriousness of air and water pollution to the attention of the American people, has now become an international event that is recognized in over 190 countries and mobilizes an estimated 1 billion volunteers annually. 


          If you follow us on social media, you’ll have seen us post over the past week about the importance of energy conservation as well as tips to help you reduce your energy consumption. Today, however, we want to highlight a few of our favorite non-profit organizations that are helping the environment and encourage you to donate (time or money) to their causes. Some of these organizations, many others too, have opportunities for you and your company to participate in projects that will help make our world a better place to live. Volunteerism is a great way to build camaraderie within your organization and to help your business connect with your local community


The Ocean Conservancy is a global organization based right here in Washington, DC. The ocean conservancy works to preserve the world’s oceans and protect all the creatures that call those oceans home. Anacostia Riverkeeper works locally to protect and restore the Anacostia River. They employ the local community in volunteer efforts to help remove trash from the river, lobby to hold entities accountable for their contributions to river pollution, and even offer “meaningful encounters with the river” which are designed to help foster a love for the waterways and encourage conservation efforts. Click here to learn more about Anacostia Riverkeepers.


Rock Creek Conservancy is the only organization dedicated solely to Rock Creek and its parks, and exists to restore the creek and its parklands as a natural oasis for all people to appreciate and protect. Chesapeake Bay Foundation is devoted to saving the Chesapeake Bay. Their efforts range greatly, from advocating for bay-saving legislation, to planting oyster beds, to hands-on volunteer opportunities.
